IN CONVERSATION WITH TIM MARLOW & ANSELM KIEFER HON RA AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY

One of the most wonderful parts of being an event photographer is the access I get to attend events that either I would not have heard of or been invited to otherwise.  With the events I shoot for Red Photographic I have had access recently to a number of superb arts events, a particular number at the Royal Academy.  This week I photographed a special talk for the public as well as specially invited guests between critic and broadcaster Tim Marlow of White Cube and first director of artistic programmes at the Royal Academy, and German painter and sculpter Anselm Kiefer Hon RA who will be exhibiting at the Royal Academy in September in a retrospective charting his progress from early watercolours to controversial 1970s re-enactments of Nazi salute.  The talk was entertaining and I found him to be very entertaining.  I enjoyed his childhood recollections of having ambitions to be first Christ, then the Pope, before settling on being an artist.  The supper afterwards was hosted by Charles Saumarez Smith among others in the Reynolds Room with food by Alison Price.

PERRIER JOUET AT MAGAZINE, HYDE PARK | LONDON EVENT PHOTOGRAPHY

It's always a treat to cover events for Campbell Bell Communications and their client Perrier Jouet.  The venues are spectacular and the food sublime.  I had only seen new restaurant Magazine, designed by architect Zaha Hadid, which is attached to the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in Kensington Gardens from the outside.  It's dramatic saddleback structure is very distinctive and the height of the ceilings and amount of glass makes it great for daytime event photography.  Talented German chef Oliver Lange prepared a menu inspired by and using Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque.  The journalists (and lucky me) enjoyed a champane paired spring menu of Sea Bream Tartar, Fennel and Belle Epoque Jelly served with the newly launched cuvee Belle Epoque Edition Premiere followed by Cornfed Chicken, Kimchi Pears and Black Rice Crisp with Belle Epoque 2006.  Dessert was the very subtle flavouried Pomelo, Fromage Blanc and Almonds served with Blason Rose.
